I Did It...

I finally broke down and bought a Kindle.

It's not my first e-reader; my first is an eBookwise. But my eBookwise isn't compatible with my Mac, so right now, it's basically useless. I've got a bunch of books still loaded on it that I can read as long as I get off my butt and charge it, but the thing is pretty clunky and heavy, so it doesn't take long for my wrist to start hurting.

Still, I do really like it. But I'm looking forward to all the cool stuff the Kindle can do. It'll be nice to load up my manuscripts to give them critical reads, and really awesome to be able to load up e-ARCs I get for quotes. Plus, instant downloads? Hell, yeah.

Now, I still need paper books...I just need to hold them. To know they are mine and can sit on my shelves and look all pretty. Some books have such great covers that they need to be bought in paper format. And some just need to be in paper because they're special. I could never not buy a Robert Jordan book in paper.

So I can see myself buying doubles at times, because there are authors I have to have in paperback, but since we don't have a book store close by, I can get the books instantly on Kindle, and then buy the paper versions when I get the chance.

So anyway, I'm excited. Anyone else have a Kindle? Do you love it? Hate it? And do you have a cover/protector for it?

I still have the Kindle 1.0. :)
I don't use it as much as I used to because I receive a ton of review copies. However, I do read eARCs on it from NetGalley.

I just use the stock cover that came with it but I'm pretty sure the new one doesn't come with one? Which is just too sad because they really should include it with the purchase.

Enjoy your new toy! :) I love reading on the Kindle.

No kindle except the one on my PC and ipod. Maybe I'll get an ipad for my b-day in August and download the kindle to that too ;).

You will love it. I've had mine since January. I don't know how I lived without it. I use it every single day.

I agree with you though, some books just have to be purchased in paper.

You, and a few others I must have in both formats. One to sit on my shelves and proclaim their awesomeness, and the ebook to travel with me every where I go. I have a Belkin zippered cover that wasn't very expensive and it works for my needs. You have to take the Kindle out completely when reading but that is fine with me. I even bought a purse (any excuse right?) specifically for the middle compartment that holds my Kindle perfectly.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Happy Reading :-)

I have a nook, actually, and love it because of the convenience. Especially if I'm doing research, it's fantastic to be able to download and read a book w/o waiting the pesky two days for Amazon or BN to deliver the book to my door.

I have a Kindle and an Ipad, love them both! The kindle I take to the beach, great for reading in sunlight! I have covers for both from M-edge, the best out there and comes in great colors. for the kindle it has a compartment to put a night light, so I don't keep my husband up lol..also you can stand it up on it's own, great to read while eating (hands free). Enjoy!
